Do you find that sometimes you wish you had a precise map available for preliminary project investigations, prior to employing expensive data capture methods?  I can assist with the creation of customised precise maps/plans for your project - to view and navigate on your mobile phone, in Google Maps, as opposed to Google Earth, which consumes a large amount of data.  Using your mobile phone GNSS(GPS) capability, you can navigate within your project/property on site, at a remarkable accuracy i.t.o. known precise points on the ground.

 

Mobile phones are powerful tools for navigation, since the introduction of numerous additional GNSS satellite constellations into orbits around the earth.  Initially, only GPS (USA) satellites were available, but now the following are also available for domestic use:  GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (European Union), BeiDou (China) and others which are regional, such as over Japan and India.

 

With signals available from many more satellites, the improved geometry provides a better positional fix at your position on the earth.  Most mobile phones make use of a single frequency signal from the satellites, while some phones have dual-frequency capability, further enhancing the accuracy of the calculated position on the earth's surface.  It is advisable to query your specific device's capability, as to which constellations it utilises.  I have found that I am often within one metre of a precise point when navigating to known precise points on the ground.  Best results are under clear skies, while tree canopies and tall buildings can lessen the positional accuracy - typically up to five metres.  There is a very handy app available to check which satellites' signals your phone is receiving: 'GPSTest'.

 

Have a look at these examples, which can be customised to include your proposed project data.  Bear in mind that the data in these examples is precise, with the 'Points' and 'Lines' input via co-ordinates (at cm precision), obtained from data in the public domain.  The data is accurate, as opposed to  the background mapping in Google Earth and Google Maps, which is obtained from GIS systems, which may not necessarily be from actual co-ordinates.  When looking for known infrastructure points on the ground, these maps can generally assist you to be within about one metre of a point, for example, a manhole that may be covered by soil?  Point data can be queried to see descriptions of the point.  While these examples may be simplistic, they could be very handy to many users, including architects, property developers, estate agents who wish to show clients approximate fence lines, farmers, other land owners, or surveyors looking for established survey control points, etc.
